Two disciplines

I studied graphic design twice at Valencia College, once in print and once in interactive. Print is fixed: the file goes to press at one size and nothing changes after that. Interactive is not fixed: the same layout has to hold on a phone and on a wide monitor, and the reader can change the text size. I keep both habits, checking before committing and never treating my own screen as the one that matters, so the work holds on screens the person approving it will never see.

Into automation

The same pattern kept appearing on design jobs, just outside the design itself. The brand was sound and the site was sound, while behind both a person copied rows between two systems manually every morning, because no one had been given the task of examining it. I learned to build the part that removes that work, using the method design already supplies: establish what actually happens rather than what the process document records. The steps that survive on habit are dropped, what is left is kept simple enough to hand over, and the task leaves the working day rather than moving to another desk.

One job

The identity decides what the site has to be, the site decides what gets captured and where, and that decides what can be automated later. What resists automation is data that was never held in a usable shape. When three suppliers own those three pieces, no one owns the decisions that join them, which is where the cost appears. A single owner across all three closes that gap, so keeping them together costs less and less breaks.

Where AI goes

The automation I build includes a model only where a model belongs, and that placement is decided deliberately. A model suits work that needs judgement and can be wrong occasionally: sorting, drafting, reading messy text. It is not reliable for anything that has to be exactly right every time, so the model reads, a plain rule decides, and every run leaves a record that can be opened. Where a task can be done without a model, I do it without one, which costs less and does not drift.

How I work

The work starts with a long list of questions, and if a brief is pointing the wrong way I say so before anything is built. What I show at review is the working build, not a picture of one, and anything unfinished is named at handover. A small number of jobs at a time is what makes that attention possible. Delivery is the files, the rules that govern them, and enough written down that another person could keep it running.

Right fit

Working alone is deliberate, and it suits work where judgement matters more than volume. The fit is an identity meant to last, a site that explains itself unattended, an internal tool a few people use daily, or a process that accumulated step by step without anyone designing it. I am not the right choice when the need is a six person team available immediately, or the same campaign in five markets at once. Naming that limit early keeps a poor fit out of the contract.
